Josh Johnson Says He Had a Brain Bleed After 2023 NFC Championship Game
Thought this was interesting insight from Josh Johnson. He revealed on Ross Tucker’s podcast that he had a brain bleed and was really struggling after being knocked out of the NFC Championship Game in Philadelphia a few years back:
“We flew back to Philly, one of the worst flights of my life. I never felt as uncomfortable as I have on that plane ride. Got back to San Fran, went home, did (tests) the next day, I was in shades and everything was just hard. Then two days later I almost passed out in the shower and my wife called the team and said ‘something’s not right,’ so when I got my MRI, that’s when they figured out I had a brain bleed, because everybody thought I had a concussion. So I had a brain bleed, and the bleeding got into my spine, to the point where I couldn’t touch my toes. So three days (prior) I felt like one of the better athletes in the world, then three days later I can’t even touch my toes. I went through rehab with the team, also was doing double rehab with (with a San Francisco doctor)… so I’m doing two basically rehabs a day. They thought my career would be over.”
Pretty crazy to think about what these guys are going through behind the scenes. The Eagles knocked two quarterbacks out of that game. Brock Purdy tore his UCL and Johnson had a brain bleed that went into his spine. When Jonathan Gannon said “we’re gonna fucking gut these guys,” he meant it. The fact that JJ is out there at all is pretty amazing if you think about it. And he didn’t look half bad filling in at age 39 for the injury-wracked Commies last season.
