Nelson Agholor’s Drop Came at the Worst Possible Time

Nelson Agholor took responsibility for a pair of drops he committed in last night’s loss, going on Twitter after the game to say the following:

I left plays out there that I know I could’ve made and will make going forward, tough loss that hurts a lot because I know how hard we played. I will be better and as a team we will be better moving forward.

As brutal as that second drop was, I just can’t kill the guy, considering that he stepped it up with 8 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown as the Eagles played without DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery for almost the entirety of the evening. Thrust into a WR1 role, Agholor was asked to lead the line for the banged-up Eagles and honestly did an admirable job.

But I just can’t stop playing this sequence out in my head, the final drive deep left toss that would have seen him breeze right into the end zone:

It will unfortunately go down as one of the worst drops in Eagles history. We’re talking about a surefire touchdown with 1:53 on the game clock, the Eagles trailing by four points on the road and trying to complete their second come-from-behind drive in the same quarter.

After the game, Agholor said he lost the ball in the lights, but here’s some clarification on the question and answer via Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice:

And to go a step further, Agholor was the guy who came down with the big fourth down grab to extend that drive and give the Eagles another shot:

I don’t know man. I can’t do it. I just can’t kill the guy for the drop. I want to, but I can’t. He made some good plays in this game and he wasn’t the reason for the loss. The Eagles just weren’t good enough from the jump.

But you tell me, are we crushing Agholor today or no?
