John Harbaugh to the Giants:

“…barring any setbacks, Harbaugh is ready to accept the Giants’ deal and the Giants are expected to hire him as soon as possible, per sources.”

It’s a great hire for the G Men, who canned Brian Daboll in the middle of a four-win season. Finally a competent coach in the Meadowlands after 10 years of Ben McAdoo, Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, and Daboll. McAdoo went 13-15 and had to be replaced by an interim SPAGS, who then jumped ship for KC and won a bunch of Super Bowls with Big Red. Shurmur went 9 and 23. Judge won 10 games over two seasons and disgraced his hometown of Lansdale, then Daboll went 20 and 40 and out the door.

Daboll’s lasting impact was going hard after Jaxson Dart and giving Harbaugh a franchise quarterback to work with. They’ve got Dart, Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, Abdul Carter, and some decent pieces up there. You do wonder about Joe Schoen, who doesn’t have the world’s greatest draft record. Maybe his influence wanes with Harbaugh in town, or he gets sent into the broom closet like Chip Kelly and Howie Roseman in 2013. Harbaugh went 18 years in Baltimore with a Super Bowl victory and just three losing seasons. He was the best coach on the market and they went after him pretty aggressively.

We knew that the Giants weren’t going to suck forever. Same thing with Washington. Eventually you’re so bad for so long that you stumble ass-backwards into a franchise QB and win a bunch of games. Expect both of those teams to challenge the Eagles moving forward, assuming they get the coaching staff sorted in the swamp. The Cowboys, however, are going nowhere as long as Jerry Jones is in the house.
