Nick Foles Says Former Teammate Sean Mannion was “One of the More Impressive Rookies I’ve Ever Been Around”
Legendary Philadelphia Eagle Nick Foles had some nice things to say about new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion:
“Very impressive rookie, one of the more impressive rookies I’ve ever been around. You could tell right away with his work ethic, his knowledge of football at that point, and honestly, I don’t know if he liked it when I said it, but it seemed like he had a photographic memory with his ability to recall things. Either that, or he was constantly studying, prepping, flash cards, whatever it may be, but you could tell he was really diligent… you knew he’d always be a guy who would climb the ladder, but he’s climbing it quicker than I thought.”
Mannion and Foles played on the 2015 Rams with Case Keenum. Nick wasn’t very good that year, between Eagles stints, and then the Rams drafted Jared Goff the following season, moved to LA, hired Sean McVay, and the rest is history.
Good stuff from BDN, though. Of course he’s going to say nice things about the guy, which is funny. It’s not like any of these former teammates or coaches are gonna go on some podcast and say “Sean Mannion totally blows, can’t believe they hired him.” But the thing that’s been consistent in reaction is that Mannion seems like one of those “student of the game” types of people, who was detailed and dedicated from the jump. That 2017 season under McVay and Matt LaFleur seems to have been the “aha” moment to springboard Mannion into coaching.
Here’s the full podcast episode. The Mannion stuff is right off the top, couple minutes in:
