Not Exactly Rave Reviews for the $50 Eagles New Era Hats

The Sideline Eagles Twitter account shared some photos of the 2025 Eagles New Era hats from the Birds’ website:

There are a few more available, a couple of flat brim split-panel hats with the little mesh holes on the crown. Two other gray hats as well.
The biggest travesty is the price tag here. $50 for a hat? For that price, you could get two bottles of water at Lincoln Financial Field!
One Crossing Broad staffer says he hates the logo, which New Era describes as a “heat-sealed rubberized team patch.” It does stick out a bit from the hat surface, and the rectangle shape makes it look small. Minimalist to a fault, perhaps. The Eagles logo looks smaller than the New Era logo. I think the kelly green trucker looks good, and the midnight green as well, but the snapbacks with the little curve etched into the brim are weird. Looks like something your dad would wear. And the flat brims, dunno. You have to have a certain head shape or be a certain age to wear flat brim hats. Wearing flat brim hats as a white man is risky because there’s a very thin line between looking fashionable and looking like a wigger.*
Here’s a sampling of social media comments:
- “they’re terrible”
- “all ugly”
- “I’m a diehard eagles fan but the hats are ugly asf, all of them”
- “lazy, lazy design that’s easy to manufacture”
- “new era sucks”
- “ALL of them suck ass”
- “very blah and basic”
- “that is the ugliest set of hats I have ever laid my eyes on”
- “could have kept these in the sweatshops”
FYI this is the official 2025 on-field hat worn by players, coaches, and staffers. Maybe that’s the reason for the price, since you’re wearing the same stuff the players and coaches are wearing.
*We once got an email complaint about using the word ‘wigger’ in a story, but it’s really not offensive. I think if you used it back in the 1990s, when everyone in Montco was dressing like Fred Durst, it’s now grandfathered in and you’re good to keep using it.
