On a Positive Note, the Eagles Ran a Screen Play That Gained Yards

Grasping at straws, but here’s a positive.

The Eagles did not run the Makai Lemon bubble screen on Sunday. Yay!

In fact, they only ran one screen, and it was a quick hitter to Dontayvion Wicks. It looked like it was going nowhere, but he turned it up field for five yards:

Lemon and Darius Cooper both went to block the same guy. Cam Jurgens barely got anything on Braden Fiske and then whiffed entirely on Nate Landman. Luckily Wicks was able to juke Fiske and then Drew Kendall came over to put a body on Landman, and they turned it into a five yard gain.

This was late in the fourth quarter, after the Rams went 98 yards to make it a 20-17 game. The Birds ran Tank Bigsby for a yard on 1st and 10, the play in which he went down injured. Then they came back with this screen, which, oh boy. If Wicks didn’t turn nothing into something, the BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS would have rained down on the field.

But it goes into the books as a five-yard gain.

I asked the A.I. assistant attached to our database to pull the updated numbers and it told me this:

“In the 2026 NFL regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles (all thrown by Jalen Hurts) have completed 10 of 15 passes thrown behind the line of scrimmage (66.7%) for -3 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions (-0.20 yards per attempt).”

That’s better than the -8 yards they had logged after three weeks. Small wins!

Here’s a chart for your visual enjoyment:
