After trading for Jahan Dotson last summer, Howie Roseman trades for John Metchie III this summer:

Schefty and others are reporting that the full trade is Metchie and 6th rounder for Bryant and a 5th. The Eagles have a ton of draft picks next season so losing a 5th is no big deal.

Note that the Texans lost tight end Brevin Jordan to an ACL tear last week, so they needed depth at the position. They’ve got Dalton Schultz and then a big drop off to Cade Stover.

Metchie had 254 yards and a touchdown on 24 catches last year. He was targeted 37 times. Not a lot of targets available when C.J. Stroud was throwing to Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Schultz, Stefon Diggs, and then Joe Mixon out of the backfield. Metchie was a 2nd round pick out of Bama back in 2022 but missed his first season after a leukemia diagnosis and then found himself down the depth chart when he returned. He’s a change of scenery candidate and really could benefit from a different situation and a bit of confidence.

Naturally, people seem to be wondering if this means the receivers not named A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith stink, but at face value it seems like Roseman just saw an opportunity to add an intriguing guy with the Texans’ WR room looking bloated.
