A USA Today poll confirmed what we all already knew: Philadelphia is the best football town in the country:

The question that naturally comes to mind after seeing these results is, “How was this conclusion reached?” The answer is murky. I can’t find the exact process on the USA Today website, and the Visit Philly article about it just says this:

Competition for the coveted national accolade was stiff as a panel of travel experts put Philadelphia up against 19 other football-crazed cities — and the rest of the country confirmed what we already knew: Eagles fans squawk the loudest.

Following weeks of online voting, Philly’s green-clad diehards had enough grease on the poles (polls?) to slip by top contenders like Buffalo, Green Bay, Pittsburgh and Kansas City for the No. 1 spot.

A panel of travel experts…

Weeks of online voting…

Sounds like some travel agents picked a couple cites at random, put them on a list, and had people on the computer click on who they think should win… You may think this is not very official-sounding…

But you’re wrong! This counts. An award is an award. When you see a trophy on a shelf behind someone on a Zoom call, you can’t tell what the trophy is from. It could be a Nobel Peace Prize trophy. Or a Pulitzer Prize trophy. Or a USA Today Best NFL Cities in America trophy. Being a winner is all that matters, and Philadelphia has won again. I will take it.

Bet Josh Hart feels dumb as hell right about now…

“I used to think Philly was a sports town. I don’t know if it is anymore.”

Bet he saw the USA Today results on X this morning and immediately turned his phone off. Felt too much shame. Probably has to work with a PR firm on an apology to Philly all day today. Good luck getting out of this mess, Josh. Maybe next time you’ll think before you speak…
