Saw this on Eagles Reddit.

First season being an Eagles fan, any advice for me?

Hmmm…

First thought – it’s hard to comprehend that the Eagles are a bandwagon team now. That’s what this is, right? Yeah, the guy notes that his friend is a Birds fan, but he isn’t jumping ship from one shitty team to another shitty team. He’s not switching from the Jets to the Raiders. The Eagles are an attractive club for these fans because of two Super Bowls and a whole lot of winning since 2017. It is unfamiliar and somewhat uncomfortable territory. I have mixed feelings on these outsiders claiming Eagles fandom. And certainly mixed feelings on foreigners picking the Birds in the same way people over here pick Manchester City and Arsenal as their Premier League teams. It’s inauthentic. It’s inorganic. These people didn’t suffer like we did. They didn’t go to training camp and Veterans Stadium and throw their “Bad Call Brick” at the television after every Donovan McNabb wormburner.

Second thought – how pathetic are the New York Jets? The happiest memory this fan has is watching Mark Sanchez hand the ball to Shonn Greene, Thomas Jones, and LaDainian Tomlinson. Yeah, they had Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes, but Sanchez threw more interceptions than touchdowns back in 2009 and 2010, at least during those regular seasons, when they won nine games and 11 games. They got to the AFCCG two years in a row largely because of guys like Nick Mangold (RIP), Shaun Ellis, Darrelle Revis, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and David Harris. It was an overachieving team with a great Rex Ryan defense and a solid running game.

Third thought – this guy needs to renounce his Mets fandom if he’s switching allegiances. There’s no room for people who support both the Eagles and the Mets. Abomination! We checked with the sports fandom tribunal and they rejected this. You’re either all-in, or you’re out. That’s just how it goes.

Fourth thought – this guy is looking for advice on how to be a Birds fan. I would say never tweet, don’t listen to WIP, and log off after the game. Go outside and smoke a cigarette, or vape, or do whatever it is you do. Avoid the miserabs like the plague.

Go Birds, DH
