Report: Birds Trading Torrey Smith for a Young Corner

Another Mountaineer to the Eagles? I’m good with that.

But first, Torrey Smith, who was due $5 million this season and seemed like an obvious salary cap casualty. He was entering year two of a three year, $15m deal. Smith was okay in the regular season but suffered some drops early before putting together a solid postseason run with 13 catches for 157 yards and a touchdown. The move paves the way for Mack Hollins to assume the Birds WR3 spot and clears a big chunk of money.

As for Daryl Worley, he was a third round pick in the 2016 draft, a Philly native and Penn Charter grad. The 23-year-old cornerback is heading into the third year of his rookie deal and hits the cap around $850,000, according to Overthecap.com:

 

So the Birds save more than $4m in the trade and add a young corner to the secondary.

Looks really good on paper, unless I missed something here. Howie Roseman does it again. I can’t believe someone took on Smith’s contract.
