Report: James Robert Cooter Not a “Top Candidate” to Replace Brian Johnson

Monday, D Gunn reported that Brian Johnson would not be returning as Eagles offensive coordinator. Here’s Jeff McLane with some more information:
Brian Johnson won’t be returning to the #Eagles as offensive coordinator, NFL sources said, confirming @RealDGunn.
Nick Sirianni will have to replace both his OC and DC. Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter was mentioned as a possibility, but he won’t be among the top candidates, I’m being…

Look, anytime you can get Jim Bob Cooter on the website, you have to do it. He was an offensive consultant with the Eagles in 2021, Nick Sirianni’s first year, then he left for a job with the Jag-wires in 2022. Now he’s the Colts’ offensive coordinator under Shane Steichen, who calls the plays in Indy. That’s the hook here. Cooter is connected to Sirianni and Steichen but doesn’t call the plays, so there’s no guarantee he’d be a good hire here. There’s also the possibility of Sirianni going back to play calling, which would render that point moot. Seems like everything is on the table for the Eagles as they clean house.
