Report: Mike Groh Promoted to Eagles’ Offensive Coordinator

With Frank Reich taking the Colts’ head coaching job, Doug Pederson needed to find a new offensive coordinator this offseason.

It looks like wide receivers coach Mike Groh will get the gig, according to ESPN’s Tim McManus:

T-Mac reports that Duce Staley, who was also considered for the job, will remain in his position as the Birds’ running backs coach. Press Taylor, who served as assistant QB coach and an offensive quality control assistant, will be promoted to QB coach as a replacement for John DeFilippo, who joined the Vikings as their offensive coordinator.

Groh only joined the Eagles in 2017 but has a lengthy coaching resume dating back to 2000. Staley, a former Bird and Steeler, had a 10 year playing career but has only been coaching since 2011, when Andy Reid brought him on as a special teams quality control coach.

Groh’s father is Al Groh, who was Virginia’s head coach from 2001 to 2009 after leaving the New York Jets.

It would be nice for Pederson to find an expanded role for Duce, who has been with the franchise for seven seasons now. Doug also has to fill the WR job left vacant by Groh’s promotion.

Most importantly, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz looks like he’ll be back with the Birds next season.
