Report: Zach Ertz Release “Unlikely”

Can we go a full day without a Philadelphia Eagles post?
Nah, let’s get it back to the Birds:
Talks on a potential Zach Ertz trade have been ongoing for quite some time but fairly quiet of late. At least three TE-needy teams have looked into this. Eagles have made clear they won't part for nothing in return, making a release unlikely. Things could pick back up this week.

Just to jog your memory here, Zach Ertz enters this season at age 31 with a base salary of $8.5 million and cap hit of $12.7 million. According to Over the Cap, a post-June 1st cut or trade would result in about $4 million in dead cap and $8 million in relief. Ertz was not at voluntary OTAs and it’s widely believed that he’s ready to move on.
Obviously the Eagles didn’t find what they wanted RE: value during draft week. So you keep him on the roster and try again after June 1st and see if you get any other bites. Interestingly enough, the Bills just cleared some cap space, so we’ll see if they make an approach for Ertz, who is coming off a statistically poor season. He could and probably will benefit from a change of scenery.
Standing by.
