Sheil Kapadia Leaving The Athletic

“Philly” sports media news:
The last 5 years @TheAthletic have been amazing, but I’m moving on for a new opportunity.
The hardest part is leaving great teammates. I look forward to continuing to consume the incredible work they produce.
This place has carved out an essential space in sports.

Next for me: Pumped to be joining @ringer!
I’ll be podcasting and writing about the NFL, among other things.
Specifics to come, but I can’t wait to join their talented team in a couple weeks!

I put Philly in quotes because Sheil took on a national role with The Athletic a few years ago despite being based here. He originally joined up as an Eagles reporter, which brought him back to the region after a stint covering the Seahawks for ESPN. Prior to that, he worked on the excellent-but-now-defunct Birds 24/7 blog for Philly Mag, which has since eschewed sports coverage entirely. Sheil was also with the Inquirer/Philly.com for a few years as well.
This is a great get for THE RINGER! <Bill Simmons voice> I feel like Sheil is highly-regarded in the biz as a non-bullshitter who does really good work. No hot takes or anything like that, just good #content. Moving away from The Athletic takes him out from behind the paywall and back to a traditional open site. It’s also interesting to see some people leaving following the NYT acquisition. First Bodner, now Sheil. Who’s next?
Kevin has been writing about Philadelphia sports since 2009. He spent seven years in the CBS 3 sports department and started with the Union during the team's 2010 inaugural season. He went to the academic powerhouses of Boyertown High School and West Virginia University. email - k.kinkead@sportradar.com
