Should Have Flexed – 27 Immediate Takeaways from Commies 27, Eagles 10
The Eagles lost to the Commanders on Sunday night. It was a terrible football game. Complete waste of time. It should have been flexed into the sun.
This is a bad team, wracked with injuries and limited by poor coaching anyway. They probably weren’t gonna do shit even if they were healthy. Now they’re 2-6 and the season is over.
Here are some takeaways!
1) Thought it was apropos that one of the very first broadcast shots showed Saquon Barkley on the exercise bike. That felt like a proper snapshot considering he was maybe 75% and one of the few guys capable of doing anything on offense.
2) Hell of a catch by Andrew Mukuba, who looked like DeVonta Smith going up and grabbing the ball. Didn’t count though because Jonathan Greenard jumped offside on 3rd and 6. By that point Mukuba and Moro Ojomo already had to leave the game. Then Washington false started two times in a row before missing a 55-yard field goal.
Ugly football!
3) Pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before but it’s crazy how much Makai Lemon looks like Bizzy Bone. He’d fit right in as the 5th member of Bone Thugs:

4) Watching Tanner McKee scramble is a hoot. Michael Vick, he is not.
5) Treylon Burks with the 3rd and 3 drop. He’s the guy the Titans drafted with the pick they got from the A.J. Brown trade.
6) Lot of blitzing from Warshington all game long. McKee did okay against it on the second drive in particular. 2-3 for 31 yards passing, with nice completions to Lemon and Darius Cooper to move the sticks. They stalled just outside the red zone but did a nice job of turning the missed Commie field goal into points.
7) Mukuba comes back into the game to force a fumble. Brilliant!
8) “They really haven’t gotten Saquon started just yet,” said Cris Collinsworth after the turnover. Then the Birds threw Barkley a wheel route, handed the ball to him, and ran him from the wildcat for a score. Great timing. They made Collinsworth look like a genius on that drive.
9) Goedert knew this was going for 6:

10) Ojomo came back into the game with a big tackle for loss. Feels like it had been a million years since the last TFL.
11) The Geico croissant commercial is annoying.
12) No Saquon on the 4th drive. Thought Elijah Mitchell ran it well on that possession, just some no nonsense north/south stuff. It was the 2nd and 5 sack that killed that drive, looked like a busted protection/communication with Landon Dickerson after they seemed to have some trouble getting the play off. Then, on third down, not sure why you’re going bootleg left with Grant Calcaterra trying to block out there. Doesn’t make a lot of sense considering McKee’s lack of mobility.
13) 11 plays, 89 yards for Washington to tie. Eagles defense didn’t do much of anything on that drive. Didn’t stop the run. Didn’t stop the pass. Didn’t get any pressure on Daniels. Commies had 3 chunk plays on that drive and the EDGE group stood out in looking particularly feeble.
14) Greenard hasn’t done a thing this season.
15) Pretty weak call on K’Lavon Chaisson (both of them honestly). We’d be going nuts if they called that on the Eagles. The Birds were feeling charitable, though, and gave the yards right back by committing a delay of game after running for a four-yard loss. That set up 2nd and 19.
16) ???
17) <I think I feel asleep towards the end of the first half>
18) Let me guess, they wasted their possessions right before halftime and had shitty clock and game management?
19) Eli Stowers sighting.
20) Eagles went 7 plays, 27 yards, just to run into pressure on 3rd and 3 for a loss. Surely McKee has to audible out of that. You just need a pitch and catch on a hot route, some basic blitz beater to move the chains.
21) Mid-term elections on Tuesday. You know what that means – no more data center fliers in the mailbox. “The Democrats love data centers!.” “No, the Republicans love data centers!”
22) Jalen Carter big play alert. Good stunt from Ojomo, as Collinsworth pointed out on the broadcast. Looked like the Jalen Carter we’re used to seeing.
23) Felt like they were doing a good job against the blitz and getting the ball out quickly before the McKee fumble. Second drive in a row where they were starting to put something together, then it just blew up in spectacular fashion.
24) Roughing the passer to bail out a terrible interception. God that was ugly. Goedert reached out with one hand and banged it off his leg and it popped right up in the air.
25) These takeaways kind of suck. Sorry.
26) Before Markel Bell false started, that was the right decision to go on 4th and 3. Why? Because they barely ever sniff the red zone. Might as well try to take the lead right then and there.
Of course, it didn’t matter because they committed two penalties in a row and then clanked the second field goal attempt off the upright. A perfect snapshot of this Eagles season.
27) These two should get a room:
