Nothing groundbreaking from Doug Pederson’s Friday press conference.

DeSean Jackson has been able to run this week as part of his abdominal injury rehab, though he does not seem to be ready for a game yet. He was again listed as a practice non-participant on Wednesday and Thursday, along with Avonte Maddox, Corey Clement, Ronald Darby, Tim Jernigan, and Darren Sproles.

Sidney Jones is, however, expected to go on Sunday, having played just ten snaps against Green Bay before leaving the game injured.

Doug on Friday:

He’s doing well. He practiced (Thursday), practiced all week actually. He’ll get out there again there today so we fully expect him to go Sunday.

With the secondary situation being what it is, here’s how the snaps played out against the Jets:

  • Malcolm Jenkins: 59 (100%)
  • Rasul Douglas 58 (98%)
  • Rodney McLeod 58 (98%)
  • Craig James 57 (97%)
  • Orlando Scandrick 35 (59%)
  • Andrew Sendejo 17 (29%)

Later in the presser, Pederson was asked about an earlier quote in which he talked about Jones having to “break through” to start performing at a high level:

I think what happens is sometimes, think of the times you’ve been ill or sick and you still have to go to work and still have to show up. You almost have to trick your body sometimes that you’re okay. With injury, it’s a little of the same way. I think about dealing with my surgery back in March. There are times where you’re okay and you just gotta walk, you’ve gotta be able to get on your toes, gotta be able to run. Until you do that and gain confidence, you’re probably gonna hold yourself back. Not just Sidney, but in any athlete’s case, that is the case. We need to get him out on the practice field, push him as coaches a little bit, not risk further injury, we’re not gonna do that. But get him to feel comfortable and confident that everything’s okay, then we’re good. Then they learn to play that way, they learn to practice that way. I think that’s why guys like Jason Peters, Darren Sproles, Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, Malcolm Jenkins, guys who have played a long time have learned to do that. You learn that at an early age, early in your career and it just gives you confidence moving forward. You’re pushing that threshold and busting through that barrier and all things are good.

What he’s done this week, he’s really pushed himself in practice, challenged himself. I’ve seen that with him and that’s the part I’m probably most proud of with him.
