Since Super Bowl 52, There Have Only Been Nine Truly Enjoyable Eagles Wins

Posted this on Twitter while trying to stay awake during Sunday night’s slop fest:
Serious question –
What's the last Eagles game you truly enjoyed watching?
— Kevin Kinkead (@Kevin_Kinkead) November 2, 2020
Not a rhetorical question. This was a real question, and my answer to it was the 2019 Buffalo game, when the Eagles ran the ball 41 times for 218 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-13 road win. We’ll call it “The Jordan Howard game,” when he carried the rock 23 times and looked great, pre-injury.
Outside of that one, you’d be hard-pressed to find a lot of enjoyable stuff going back to the Super Bowl. Certainly nothing this year has been truly gratifying, but for the sake of answering the question, these were the answers people provided, with a couple of mine added in:
- 2019 Packers win
- 2019 Cowboys home win
- the double-doink playoff win in Chicago
- this year’s road win in San Francisco
- at Rams, 2018
- Texans home win 2018 (Nick Foles 471 yards and 4 TDs)
- 2018 London win against the Jags
- 24-0 over Washington to wrap up the 2018 regular season
- 37-27 over Washington on the road in 2019
I think we’d all agree that the Cowboys and Giants wins this season were not enjoyable, nor was the Bengals’ tie. Beating a depleted San Francisco on the road coincided with Travis Fulgham’s arrival, so in hindsight I think we’d put it on the list, Nick Mullens disaster or not.
You could make a case that the 2019 Bears win was enjoyable, but a 19-0 lead turned into a 22-14 win, so that one soured in the third and fourth quarter and I left it off the list. The Washington win with the DeSean Jackson touchdown bombs was fun, but concerning, since they found themselves down big early. Same with the 2018 season opening win against the Falcons, since Nick Foles didn’t play well and they needed a late score to win it. The defense kept them in that game.
So the Eagles have played 43 games since winning the Super Bowl and only nine of them have been enjoyable, despite ripping off 22 total wins. Is that Negadelphia? It seems like it on paper, but even in a lot of these wins it’s just felt so laborious and complicated and difficult to watch, with interceptions and fumbles and funky play calling and everything in between. The Birds are not enjoyable when they lose but they also haven’t always been enjoyable when they win, and it’s made for an exhausting couple of years, post ring.
Surely I’m not the only one who feels this way, right?
