Somebody Get Landon Dickerson a Vacation and Some Quality Time on the Riding Mower
There’s chatter that Landon Dickerson might be retire early, after five NFL seasons. That’s from Jeff McLane and Mike Garafolo:
People are doing the dramatic thing on social media. “Oh no! The Birds are a dysfunctional disaster! I’m going to jump out of my office window onto the frozen Schuylkill River!”
Give me a fuckin’ break. It’s February 6th and everybody is acting like a WIP host. The Birds had a disappointing title defense. Guys were banged up. New coaches are coming in. We wanted changes on the offensive side of the ball and we’re getting changes on the offensive side of the ball, it’s just coming with the departure of a beloved position coach in Jeff Stoutland, and now the futures of Landon Dickerson and maybe Lane Johnson are up in there air. It sounds rough, but stop being a baby and trust Howie Roseman to reload on the offensive line.
The bottom line is that Dickerson wasn’t healthy at all this year. He talked about it after the playoff loss. It started with the preseason injury and he was already carrying the wear and tear of the Super Bowl season and those hundreds of run blocking snaps. That dude has been through A LOT in a half-decade of NFL games, plus college injuries, and for the first time in a long time has a legitimate break to pause, get healthy, and think about his future.
Even if he decides to ride his $15,000 lawnmower into the sunset, he’d still go down as one of the best Eagles linemen of all time. Five seasons, three Pro Bowl honors, two Super Bowl appearances, and a ring. Guys play for 12 years and don’t accomplish that. Dickerson would be walking away from a lot of money, and the Birds would get some cap relief, but he seems like a simple dude, the content type.
If Dickerson leaves, it will be a bummer, but we will all survive.
