The Eagles and Dolphins Are Reportedly in Talks for a Byron Maxwell Trade

OH YES PLEASE.
This would be a truly remarkable trade if the Eagles could pull it off. They could get an air pump in return and getting out of Maxwell’s contract would be worth it.
Maxwell is due to make $9.7 million this year in the second year of a six-year, $63 million deal with $22 million fully guaranteed. He’s owed roughly $14 million of the guaranteed portion, and has a dead cap number of $13.3 million if the Eagles were to just release him this season. If they trade him, they absorb only half of his $9.7 million cap hit, which saves them $4.9 million.
More soon.
UPDATE: Worth noting that both Matt Lombardo and John Barchard say Roseman was the one who wanted to sign him:
The#Eagles trading Maxwell would open cap space, but I had heard Howie Roseman was higher on signing him than Chip Kelly was. #NFL

I had heard Roseman pushed for the Maxwell signing and it ended up as him not being a great locker room guy…

Nnamdi, Cary, Byron. Maybe they should just draft more defensive backs.
