The best time to play the fastest game the NFL has seen in the last 32 years is when it feels like 10° in the stadium, and the Eagles and Raiders did just that according to John Breech at CBSSports.com:

The Eagles destroyed the Raiders, 31-0, in a game that took just two hours and 31 minutes, which made it the shortest game of the century. Since 2000, there have only been two other games that even clocked in at under two hours and 35 minutes. The last one came in 2008 when the Titans beat the Colts in a game that lasted just two hours and 33 minutes. In 2007, the Buccaneers took down the Falcons in a game that lasted two hours and 34 minutes. However, neither of those games was shorter than Eagles-Raiders.

The Eagles win was the fastest that any game has been played since 1993 when the Cowboys beat the Cardinals, 17-10, in a game that also took exactly two hours and 31 minutes.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought to himself that first half flew by. That’s what happens when there are only two drives in the first quarter. In his article, Breech mentions there were only six penalties. It’s like the zebras huddled together and decided to let the boys play so they could get warm ASAP. The Eagles also ran the ball 47 times and there were only 13 incompletions. All recipes for a quick game.

Lets take a look at some events that took longer than the Eagles vs. Raiders:

  • Frank Gore’s tenure with the Birds
  • Nnamdi Asomugha’s lunches by himself in the car
  • The Eagles 2018 and 2025 Super Bowl Champion Parades
  • The Titanic sinking
  • The Battle of Gettysburg
  • The Sunday Funday shift you put in at the bar after the game
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • One episode of The Joe Rogan Experience
  • Carmen Electra & Dennis Rodman’s marriage (nine days)
  • A Bruce Springsteen set
  • Kramer and Newman’s game of Risk!

P.S. This was a pretty funny interaction between Air Traffic Control at Philly International and the plane coming to pick up the Raiders.
