They technically can bring him back at a lower number. Slay is on record saying that he wants to play one more year, and if it’s not with the Eagles, he’d like it to be with the Lions.

If Slay does indeed wind up somewhere else, the Eagles have Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Kelee Ringo in the fold while Isaiah Rodgers is a restricted free agent. They have a lot of youth in the secondary for the first time in a long time and Slay turned 34 in January.

It’s funny to think that the Eagles traded a third and fifth for Slay and immediately gave him a three-year deal with $30 million guaranteed. Not a typical Howie Roseman move at the time, but they needed a legitimate CB1 and had not had one in a long time. It ended up being a brilliant trade. Slay went on to make the Pro Bowl three times as an Eagle, got to two Super Bowls, and won a ring. He dealt with some injuries over the past two years but played some great football at key times this season and seemed energized by the infusion of youth around him, and the return of CJGJ. As goofy as he could be with the podcast, and at times seemingly incompatible with the fans and the city because of Donovan McNabb and Jalen Mills-esque aloofness, it was always more good than bad with Slay and it ended on the highest of notes. It was his addition that really saved cornerback play in Philly and served as a catalyst to rebuild that entire positional group.
