The Eagles Met With One of the Top Tackles in the Draft

Could just be due diligence, but the Eagles met with highly-rated tackle Mike McGlinchey on Tuesday.
That’s according to… Mike McGlinchey, who spoke today at the combine:

McGlinchey is Matt Ryan’s cousin. How bout that?
He’s a Philly native who went to Penn Charter before playing college ball at Notre Dame, where he spent time at both right tackle and left tackle. He’s 6’8″, 312 pounds according to his draft profile at NFL.com, which says this about him:
BOTTOM LINE
McGlinchey will need to add more strength and mass to his athletic frame in order to hold up against NFL power, but his technique and instincts are pro-ready. He could be a polarizing prospect based on inconsistencies from his tape, but he gets guys blocked at a much higher rate than he loses his rep. McGlinchey should become an early starter at either tackle position, but his ability to handle bull rushers and power at the point of attack will define the type of career he has.
I love the NFL draft. Can’t wait to hear more about “football guys” with “strong motors” and “fluid hips” who are good at “the point of contact.”
Right.
Most mock drafts have McGlinchey going anywhere between 12th and 30th. Orlando Brown of Oklahoma and Connor Williams of Texas are two beefy Big 12 boys also projected to go in the first round. Kolton Miller from UCLA is viewed favorably, too, along with Louisville’s Geron Christian, but it looks like most mocks have those guys going in the second round. Kiper has them in the first round, for what it’s worth.
Tackles are always a big get in the draft. Think of the Lane Johnson year, when three of the top four picks were OTs. The Birds could certainly use a long term option behind Jason Peters, someone to compete with Big V for the starting job beyond 2018. One issue, beyond him going in the teens, is that New England’s Nate Solder is headed for free agency, and the Pats pick at 31, right before the Eagles, so some boards have McGlinchey being plucked right then and there.
Mayock likes him:
Mike Mayock would "bang the table" for Notre Dame OT Mike McGlinchey, a Philly native and Penn Charter alum. Mayock has him rated as the top tackle — saw him play in high school, watched him closely at ND, has been around him in the weight room. Thinks he can play right away.

And he also met with the Dolphins:

Also, if you’re a Pro Football Focus believer (sometimes their methods are whack), this is how they grade him:

Notre Dame had one of the country’s best runners in Josh Adams last year, a guy who went for 1,400+ ground yards and nine touchdowns against one of the nation’s harder schedules. This wasn’t some cupcake, Sunbelt shit. This was against a rundown that included Georgia, USC, Miami, NC State, and Stanford. The Irish had the county’s 7th best rushing attack with 269.3 yards per game and put up 34.2 points on average as well.
Some highlights to take a look at, since I know nobody in Philadelphia watches college football:
