Schefter on a Friday:

A midseason move that didn’t exactly pan out. Not Robert Quinn, mind you. More Golden Tate-esque, would you agree?

Byard had a very quiet run in Philly. The end zone interception in Kansas City was a big moment. But beyond a couple of specific sequences, he never really jumped off the screen or made some “wow” play or did anything to get anyone excited. How much of that is his fault, vs. adjusting to a new team, scheme, Sean Desai and Matt Patricia, etc – that’s hard to know. But it was pretty obvious they weren’t going to keep him around in 2024.

According to Spotrac, Byard was due $14 million this season, but in releasing him, the Birds will only take a dead cap hit of about $700,000.
