The Public is Wasting a Lot of Money on the Cowboys Ahead of Season Opener vs. Eagles

Let’s get it back to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, who open the NFL regular season on Thursday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys, who last went to the NFC title game when the Macarena topped the Billboard charts.

The spread opened at Eagles -7, and remains a full seven points, with Dallas a +260 underdog on the money line.

According to BetMGM, the public really likes this game and is putting a lot of week one money on the Cowgirls:

Most bet games (tickets)

  1. Cowboys-Eagles
  2. Steelers-Jets
  3. Raiders-Patriots

Most bet teams (tickets)

  1. Cowboys +7
  2. Jets +3
  3. Giants +7

Most bet teams (handle)

  1. Bears -1.5
  2. Cowboys +7
  3. Seahawks +1.5

Most bet Overs (tickets)

  1. Chiefs-Chargers 45.5
  2. Cowboys-Eagles 46.5
  3. Dolphins-Colts 46.5

Most bet underdogs to win (tickets)

  1. Cowboys +260
  2. Ravens -102
  3. Raiders +140

It’s the first game of the year, which would be the simplest explanation for so much action, regardless of the spread. You’ve also got an opportunity here to push if the Birds win by a touchdown, so maybe it’s the +7 that’s enticing people, but the +260 has to be a value play, right? Sprinkle a unit. Surely the public does not think the Cowboys are coming into Lincoln Financial Field to defeat the defending Super Bowl champs. This is an Eagles team that thumped the Cowboys 75-13 in two games last season, and while Dak Prescott wasn’t on the field for either game, the Dallas defense couldn’t stop anything. They weren’t even competitive.

So now Dak is back, but with whom? He’s got CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, who could either go for 1,000 yards or be a total head case. Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders are wild cards at running back. Turd Ferguson was just okay at tight end last season despite getting 86 targets. They have questions on the offensive line and Brian Schottenheimer running the show.

Maybe there’s a Super Bowl hangover thing going on here, where the public thinks a healthy Cowboys team is going to catch the Birds off guard. Seems unlikely with the entire offense minus Mekhi Becton returning. The defensive turnover? We’ll see how it goes. But this Eagles team doesn’t seem like the type to come in lollygagging for the opener. Birds by a million. We collect our winnings and go to town on NJ casino apps and PA casino apps. HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS.
