The Supposed Worst Fans in Football Gave Cam Skattebo a Standing Ovation While He Was Being Carted Off
Admittedly, it feels a little sleazy using Cam Skattebo’s horrific injury as the crux of a story about Eagles fan behavior, but things got a little ridiculous when Jaxson Dart was warned about the hostility of Lincoln Financial Field by his teammates. This is a quarterback who played SEC road games in places like Athens, Gainesville, and Baton Rouge (at night), so to think he’d need guidance for an October 1 p.m. game in Philadelphia was another common exercise in misunderstanding what Birds fans are all about.
Case in point, the respect shown when Skattebo was carted off:
Not just the applause, but the standing ovation. Why? Because the fans know a baller when they see one. Skattebo was having a great rookie year. He runs hard and plays hard and he’s a likeable throwback-type of guy who resembles a bowling ball in the red zone. And most of these fans probably caught him at Arizona State, when he carried the Sun Devils to double overtime against a Texas team that came into that game a two-touchdown favorite. So there was familiarity with the player, and respect for the player, and the response is one of baseline humanity.
If Eagles fans are the worst in football, then this was surely off-brand, right? RIGHT?
