The Eagles are heading down to D.C. to take on the Commanders on Sunday night, and Washington DB Amik Robertson has personally guaranteed it’s going to be a W for the home team:

ROBERTSON: “We definitely need to win this game. And we will, you know? We gotta be detailed. We gotta practice hard. We gotta focus on all the little things. Stop making, you know, repeating mistakes. You know, and, and, and take it on to the game. Execute at a high level, everybody around the ball, and, and, you know, blow them out the water… We had six weeks of, however many weeks, to get all those mistakes out, man. Like, it’s just really no excuses, and that goes for myself, that goes for everybody. Offense, defense, like, we’re trying to execute at a high level and play complementary football, and that’s offense, defense, and special teams.”

REPORTER: “Saying you’re gonna win on Sunday, it sounds like a guarantee.”

ROBERTSON: “It have to be… We have to win the rest of these games if we’re gonna go where we wanna go.”

I have four big thoughts on this. Here they are, in no particular order:

1) This game is going to be true slop

First off, this is going to be such a bad game. Absolute dog shit viewing. We all know the Eagles are bad, but the Commanders might be worse. They’ve similarly been dealing with injuries all year — Terry McLaurin is out with a pulled hamstring, Laremy Tunsil hasn’t played all season because of a torn tricep, Jaden McDaniels has already missed a few games, and the list goes on and on. The result has been a 1-4-1 record so far. Here’s where they rank league-wide in offense and defense, according to the Sportradar data:

  • Offense Rankings:
    • Total Offense: 19th (325.2 YPG)
    • Scoring Offense: 20th (22.0 PPG)
    • Rushing Offense: 9th (125.2 YPG)
    • Passing Offense: 22nd (200.0 YPG)
  • Defense Rankings:
    • Total Defense: 25th (354.5 YPG allowed)
    • Scoring Defense: 31st (28.7 PPG allowed)
    • Rushing Defense: 14th (100.5 YPG allowed)
    • Passing Defense: 28th (254.0 YPG allowed)

Not good. The NFL should move this game out of prime time. Full-blown slop.

2) Guaranteeing a win against a team as bad as the Eagles is not a cool or impressive guarantee

The Eagles are 2-5. They’ve lost 5 straight. It seems like a bunch of the players aren’t even trying anymore. They’re going into Washington as 5.5-point underdogs. They’re simply not a very good team. This is probably a lost season for the Birds.

All of that to say, guaranteeing a win over this Philadelphia team isn’t some crazy call. The Commanders probably will win. We all know that already. Promising a W over the Eagles is like guaranteeing you’re going to get a phone call today. There’s a chance it doesn’t happen, sure. But the odds are strongly in your favor. The phone will probably ring. Your mom is gonna want to tell you a boring story about your aunt, or a car insurance spam guy with a wild area code like 548 or 983 is going to try you. If Robertson ends up being right on this, I will not give a rat’s ass. Not impressed.

3) I do not blame Amik Robertson for saying this

This was a leading question. Bush league stuff from the reporter, in my opinion. Not even sure if it counts as a real guarantee, to be honest. Someone just said the word “guarantee” and Robertson basically said, “Sure.”

4) I wish some Eagles players had this attitude.

The Commanders are ass, but they still have guys in their locker room like Amik Robertson talking about must-win games and stuff. And he’s not just saying it, either. At least I don’t think so. Hearing him talk, he sounds incredibly bought in. This guy really wants a W on Sunday. He really believes the Commanders can turn their season around. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Birds had some guys like that? Why don’t they? The hell? Do the Commanders have a better culture than the Eagles now? Did Nick Sirianni lose the locker room? It seems like he did, right?

Anyway, pumped for this terrible game. Gonna be good.
