What is Going on in Dallas?

So yesterday this Dallas sports anchor with 19,000 Twitter followers reported that the entire Cowboys coaching staff had been fired, before amending that to say it was going to happen eventually. A hodge-podge of various reports then said Jason Garrett is highly likely gone, despite nothing official being announced.
It makes you wonder. What the hell is going on down there in the Big D? Apparently there’s going to be another meeting, because Jerry Jones didn’t make up his mind yet.
…Jason Garrett remains the Dallas Cowboys‘ coach — at least for now.
Garrett met with Jerry Jones after the coach and owner/general manager briefly met with the players around lunchtime Monday, but by the end of the business day, it was passed on that there would be no news conference at The Star regarding the coach’s future and the owner’s potential plan for 2020.
Garrett is scheduled to meet again with Jerry Jones and his son, Stephen, Dallas’ executive vice president, on Tuesday, a source told ESPN, confirming a report by the Dallas Morning News.
Garrett is out of contract, so they don’t technically have to fire him. They can simply just not offer a new contract. A number of assistants are also out of contract and were reportedly told to look for work elsewhere.
This would seem to explain what’s going on:
Dallas fans should quit freaking out over the Jason Garrett thing. They're just trying to let his contract "run out" instead of "firing" him.
A dignity thing. Garrett is like a son to Jones.
It'll all work itself out in a couple days.

Is that what it is? A “dignity” thing? The guy won absolutely nothing during his years in Dallas. Just show him the door and move on, Jerry.
