Why Not James Robert Cooter?
The Eagles do not have an offensive coordinator as some of the big names go off the board. Brian Daboll is heading to Tennessee and Mike McDaniel to San Diego. Joe Brady is taking the Buffalo job and Eric Bieniemy returned to KC.
One of the guys who is still out there is Colts’ offensive coordinator James Robert Cooter.
aka – JIM BOB COOTER:

Name jokes aside, Cooter’s resume is pretty good. It’s underrated. For starters, he was with the Eagles in 2021 as an offensive consultant. Then he left in 2022 to become the Jag-Wires’ passing game coordinator before joining Shane Steichen’s Indy staff as offensive coordinator. He didn’t call Colts plays, but was part of a staff that really had it going with Daniel Jones this season before the injury.
But he did call plays when he was Lions OC between 2016 and 2018. He worked with Matt Stafford out there, and Detroit had a couple of 9-7 seasons under Jim Caldwell before Matt Patricia took over. Looking back now at that roster, they had Marvin Jones and Golden Tate and not much of a rushing game. Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah were the backs. Then they added Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount and Kenny Golladay then that was it for Cooter’s tenure. He had a couple of years as the Jets’ RB coach before the Eagles season.
You see some of these tweets and comments and it’s something along lines of, “the Eagles are gonna end up with Jim Bob Cooter,” but the guy knows the system. He knows Nick Sirianni. He’s been working with Shane Steichen for a few years now and Indy’s offense was good. I guess people would see this as Nick bringing in “one of his guys,” which may or may not be true, but people are sensitive to it after the Kevin Patullo promotion. But names like Jerrod Johnson and Sean Mannion are being mentioned now, and they don’t have half the experience as the Cootster.
