You Could Say That Doug Pederson Seemed Pissed Off Today

Doug Pederson met with reporters earlier this afternoon to discuss the Eagles’ roster cuts and his team’s preparations for Thursday night’s season opener against the Falcons. If you care about the removal of Super Bowl banners in the locker room or what Pederson thinks about DeAndre Carter, then I guess there were other newsworthy items, but I don’t know why you would. The highlight of the contentious session came right at the start when a miffed Pederson got into it with reporters over the status of Carson Wentz. You can check it out after the jump.

We can assume he was not happy about this report:

The #Eagles plan to start QB Nick Foles on Thursday in the season opener, sources say. Carson Wentz (ACL, LCL) has done fantastic in rehab. But this is a long-term decision for the face of the franchise.

Honestly, I’m not so sure what Pederson’s end game is here. I get why he doesn’t want to talk about his quarterbacks, but Carson Wentz’s availability is THE story right now, and reporters have to ask questions about it:

Generally the deal is, if you schedule a news conference, you expect to be asked questions and answer them. Apparently that is not the case today.

I agree with Les.

Maybe it’s a psychological ploy designed to give his team some edge after a sleepy preseason. Maybe Pederson is actually a hot-tempered dude who feels that he has earned the right to dictate the terms of how his team is covered. Who knows? If Pederson is mad, his ire should probably be directed at whoever leaked the info to Rapoport. Really, I just think the season needs to start.
