Aleksei Kolosov Has the Worst Save Percentage Among Qualified Goaltenders

The Flyers lost 5-2 in Vegas on Thursday night. Aleksei Kolosov gave up four goals on 26 shots and has now allowed 45 on the season in 11 starts and 15 total games. Type his name into the Twitter search bar and the fan and media consensus is that he should to to the AHL, whether he wants to or not:
I’ve seen enough. It’s time to pull the plug on Aleksei Kolosov. If he doesn’t want to go to the AHL, so be it. But running him out there consistently isn’t fair to the other players on the team. He’s the worst goalie in the NHL.

Aleksei Kolosov holding this organization hostage is insane, he should be in the AHL right now.

The statistics back up what you are seeing with your own two eyeballs, or one eyeball if you’re a cyclops.
There are 52 qualified NHL goaltenders, meaning they’ve played enough games/minutes/etc to be grouped by save percentage and goals against average. Among those 52, Kolosov’s .870 save percentage is dead last and his GAA of 3.45 is 47th. He’s facing only 23.1 shots per game, which is near the bottom in volume against, but only making 20.1 saves per game, so he’s not exactly facing the firing squad out there. Even if you remove the power play from the equation he’s only saving even strength shots at a .875 rate, which is 50th.
With Sam Ersson’s injury situation, Carter Hart long gone, and Kolosov and Ivan Fedotov not lighting the world on the fire, the Flyers’ goaltending situation has flipped in the span of one calendar year. They’re a few points out of the wild card as the calendar flips to January, and might be in a better spot with better play between the pipes. But they’re also in year #2 of a legitimate rebuild and weren’t lifting the Cup in 2025. Not without Jesus performing his greatest miracle yet.
