Chuck Fletcher OUT as Flyers GM

The Flyers gave an exclusive quote to the Inquirer:

“The Philadelphia Flyers organization has always been defined by grit, determination, and a standard of excellence,” said Dave Scott, chairman of Comcast Spectacor and governor of the Flyers, in a statement obtained exclusively by The Inquirer. “Over the past several seasons, our team simply has not lived up to that standard, so today, we will begin to chart a new path forward under a new leadership structure for Hockey Operations.

“This morning, we released Chuck Fletcher from his president and general manager responsibilities. We are grateful for his hard work and dedication to this organization, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Long time coming. Fletcher was given one final trade deadline to underwhelm, then was finally canned this week.

He had some bad luck, with the Ryan Ellis and Coots injuries, so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt there, but otherwise he just made some totally ridiculous decisions and drove this franchise completely into the ground. The next guy has his work cut out for him.

Anthony is down in Florida doing Phillies stuff. He’ll probably have something more later today, but did say this:

Danny Briere is the new interim GM of the @NHLFlyers as Chuck Fletcher has been fired. I’m told an even bigger change is coming at season’s end as the franchise looks to fill “several roles.”
