Flyers Fans Claim They Were Kicked Out of Game 3 for Cursing at the Penguins
This video has been going around. A bunch of people sent it over. It shows a couple of Flyers fans getting booted from Game 3 for apparently using foul language towards the Penguins:
“They’re going to the office complaining about you guys,” is what the one security guard says. “They,” in this case, being the Penguins bench? I think… There seems to be a disagreement then over a “fuck the Penguins” chant, with the two fans saying the whole stadium was participating in this chant. That’s when the security guy comes back and says “chanting it and saying it over the bench to them are two different things,” so I guess the complainant stance is that the fans were too close to the Penguins players and going overboard. It reminds me a bit of the Eddie Perez stuff from Citizens Bank Park, when he’d threaten to send security after hecklers above the visiting bullpen. The fan narrating through the video, in this case, says he never touched the glass behind the bench.
About 1:30 into the video, a higher-level security-looking guy comes over, but it’s hard to make out anything he says. Things start to boil over at the three-minute mark, when another frustrated security guy says “I don’t give a fuck about your camera.” Eventually they begin walking out and the higher-level guy says “I got told by my staff that you were cursing at the players when they were coming out.” Then a fourth staffer, who had been just sort of hanging out, says “it’s got nothing to do with us, it’s got to do with the NHL bench… causing a ruckus obviously so they said ‘yous gotta go’ and that’s it.”
Then, off camera, someone says “I know I’m a piece of shit,” which made me laugh, and the video ends.
I haven’t seen any other clips from this incident, though it looks like the original version was posted to TikTok and there are more than 1,800 comments on there. It’s hard to litigate without more video, basically a he said/she said kind of thing. Maybe the guys were crossing a line and being obnoxious, or maybe not. You can certainly be booted from these games if you’re being “extra,” for lack of a better word, but we have no clue here.
We’ll hit up Spectacor and keep an eye out for more video.
EDIT – I’m looking at the TV screen in the background, which shows a 3-1 scoreline about four minutes into the third period. So at least these guys got to see 2 of the 3 periods. If I had to guess, this incident took place when the Pens were coming out of the locker rooms after the second intermission. Not totally sure, though.
