Flyers Forward Jordan Weal Traded to Arizona

We’ve been waiting weeks for the first significant move of the Chuck Fletcher era and… this isn’t it:
Hearing Jordan Weal to Arizona for a 6th rounder.

In addition to that sixth round pick, the Flyers are also acquiring defenseman Jacob Graves:
Graves is a 23-year-old defenseman. A career minor leaguer who has been in the Columbus and Arizona organizations. Has only played in the ECHL this season (Norfolk). He is a right-hand shot, FWIW.

Don’t get me wrong, the team needs to make trades. Do I think Jordan Weal should’ve been the first to go? No. Not at all. Sure, he’s got some holes in his game, but his versatility to play center and wing – to varying degrees of success – made him a somewhat valuable bottom six forward on this team.
Weal was first acquired by the Flyers back in January of 2016, along with a third round pick that became winger Carsen Twarynski, in exchange for defenseman Luke Schenn and a the skating cadaver of Vinny Lecavalier.
Most fans won’t lose sleep over trading a guy with 19 goals and 23 assists in 124 games for the Orange & Black.
Off the ice, Weal was a pretty interesting guy who provided my favorite story to date on Snow the Goalie: fans in Utica, NY drinking beer from a prosthetic leg during the Calder Cup Finals.
