Here we are on a sleepy June Monday where it’s hot as balls and Danny Briere turns up the temperature on us by trading for Trevor Zegras:

Zegras has been consistently linked to the Flyers over the last couple of years, like Buddy Hield to the Sixers and Mike Trout to the Phillies before him. He’s had a tough time staying on the ice, only playing 88 games the last two years. A former Rookie of the Year, his best season was three years ago when he notched 65 points. This is a Howie Roseman move if I’ve ever seen it. Take a flyer (no pun intended) on a guy in the last year of his deal to see what you can get out of him with a change of scenery. It’s basically a one-year prove it deal.

Here’s what the Flyers gave up:

Not bad. Poehling was a 4C Torts grinder who had one year left on his deal.

Zegras will reunite with his buddy Jamie Drysdale, who the Flyers need to start getting more from, and Cutter Gauthier loses another weapon. That’s all I need to know about this trade for me to already declare the Flyers winners. WE WANT THE CUP! WE WANT THE CUP!

P.S. Now that Torts is gone Zegras is free to do all the Michigans he wants to do:
