I can’t tell if I love this or hate this. The Flyers will sign Vinny Lecavalier, whose contract the Lightning just bought out, to a five-year, $22.5 million deal, which will break down as follows:
The team confirmed the signing.
That’s a lot of years and money for a 33-year-old who hasn’t scored over 54 points in three seasons, during all of which he’s missed time. His $4.5 million cap hit will be the Flyers’ second-highest among forwards. This means that to field a reasonable team next year, they will need to shed salary somewhere, so they can sign a goalie and a few capable defensemen.
There was some conjecture on Twitter and amongst a few Flyers people today that Lecavalier was a looming possibility. Now it’s done. Lecavalier is a name, yes… but does anyone else feel like he’s not exactly what the Flyers need right now?
