Local sports media news:

We will see if there are corresponding moves here, but as of this very moment, the Inquirer once again has four writers on the Philadelphia Eagles beat. It’ll be Jeff McLane, EJ Smith, Josh Tolentino, and now Reiner.

It wasn’t that long ago that the group of four included McLane, Zach Berman, Les Bowen, and Paul Domowitch. Berman left for The Athletic and Bowen and Domo took buyouts as part of the Buildings Matter, Too” post-pandemic purge. With columnists Mike Sielski, Marcus Hayes, and David Murphy in the fold, that’s likely seven Inquirer employees at Eagles home games. It used to be eight before Bob Ford took off… I think.

Reiner originally joined the Inquirer in late 2021, partnering with Giana Han on the Flyers beat after Sam Carchidi and Sam Donnellon departed. Imagine that, taking a new job and the team you cover hits a 50-year low before blowing things up. Unless the Inquirer adds another hockey person (they should now that the rebuild is beginning), Han right now is the only Flyers beat on the staff. Editor Gus Elvin writes hockey stories for the website but is not a “beat.”

Reiner does have football experience. She covered the Packers for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and is a GA alum, so she presumably grew up on the Birds and all of that.
