The Wells Fargo Center is no more. Officially, it goes into the dustbin of history with the passenger pigeon, dodo bird, and Philadelphia Eagles Dream Team:

PHILADELPHIA – August 14, 2025 – As of today, Philadelphia’s world-class sports and entertainment venue will operate under its new name: Xfinity Mobile Arena. Xfinity Mobile Arena is home to the Philadelphia Flyers, 76ers, Wings, college basketball, and premier global concerts and entertainment events.

The name change is effective immediately and will be reflected across digital, signage, and marketing materials. Exterior signage will be revealed in early September. All previously scheduled events and tickets remain valid.

And what an era it was! The Flyers and Sixers combined for 0 titles between 2010 and 2025. They didn’t even make it to the conference finals and far too many seasons were dedicated to Sam Hinkie’s Process and whatever the hell Chuck Fletcher was doing. Same with the Wings, who have been bang average since coming back. It’s been a whole lot of meh since the Wachovia Center days.

When we did the exercise in June, ranking the top ten Philly teams from the Wells Fargo Center era, #1 was the 2017-2018 national champion Villanova Wildcats. Pagan took the story and put it on Instagram and there was a lot of fuckin’ bellyaching from four-for-four fans and anti-Villanova people, but the fact of the matter is that the Pavilion was being renovated that year, and Nova played 12 Big East home games at the Farg. They went 11-1 in those games, en route to a 36-4 record and one of the most impressive March Madness runs you’ll ever see. They won every tournament game by double digits!

The only other team to win trophies during the WFC era was the Philadelphia Soul, and they don’t even exist anymore.

So yeah, it was a mostly forgettable 15 years. Let’s hope the Flyers and Sixers get it together during the Xfinity Mobile Arena era. The Wells Fargo Center era can go right into the bagster.
