NBC Sports Philadelphia, Flyers Part Ways with Chris Therien

Over the past 72 hours, the NHL went from relative obscurity with little-to-no juice to back into the public sphere. As we discussed with TSN’s Frank Seravalli on Snow The Goalie, the NHL and NHLPA formally agreed to a shortened season, COVID-19 protocols, and division realignment for the season set to begin on January 13, 2021.
Today, the NHL dropped the schedules for every team in the league, including the Orange and Black. Starting a whacky season with a back-to-back against the Pittsburgh Penguins? Sign me up.
Unfortunately, fan favorite Chris Therien will not be around to cover it for NBC Sports Philadelphia. Bundy took to Twitter on Tuesday to make the announcement:
THANK YOU @NHLFlyers fans! It has been MY pleasure to have gotten to know so many of you fans and repped the city on your behalf! You are the beating heart of this franchise. Always have been! pic.twitter.com/8QT1bCIXXY

From what I’ve gathered from multiple sources, this was a move that Therien was made aware of more than a month ago, which means he’s had a bit of time to prepare what he wanted to say to the fanbase, who have had mostly nice things to say about the former Flyers blueliner.
It was also confirmed to Crossing Broad that the change in job status is not just with the network, but the Flyers organization as well. Bundy had been doing some digital content for the team, including participating in the monthly broadcasters roundtable as part of their in-house podcast network.
It sounds like Therien is preparing to announce another venture and we wish him well in whatever he chooses to do next.
