Rick Tocchet Explains Viral Bench Conversation with Matvei Michkov
I feel like this is our third Tocchet post in a row, but it’s worth its own story because he explained on Monday afternoon what happened in this viral video clip from the Rangers game:
Tocc: “It happens all the time, just a story because it’s Mich. It wasn’t even an argument, it was about when he should switch or not with (Denver) Barkey. He’s getting it, when to switch and when not to on the power play. He was just getting frustrated on when he should switch and when he shouldn’t switch. I know a lot of media people like to let him do what he wants, but there’s a time to switch and when to switch. That’s really what it comes down to.“
It was about five minutes into the 2nd period on Saturday when Noah Laba went into the boards and then Michkov took a shot from behind. That resulted in a huge melee and power play for the Flyers, though the discussion with Tocchet took place before the power play even began. Barkey wasn’t out on the ice. So with Tocchet’s explanation as the pretext, this was a holdover from something that took place earlier in the game.
Anyway, there’s your answer.
