The responses to this are pretty overwhelming. More than 1,000 replies and 500 quote tweets as of publication, and climbing:

Here’s a sampling:

  • “We stand with the broadcasting crew, soft asses”
  • “First time I’ve cared about the flyers in years. It was a joke.”
  • “thank you but too late. already cancelled my season tickets. you forgot what this team stood for and guys like Bob Clarke and Bob Boucher would be shaking their heads in shame. I know I am.”
  • Lol. A suspension??? World gone soft.”
  • “Should have given Tim a raise for making us laugh.”

I guarantee you that no one at the Flyers, Comcast, or the Fanatic is truly worked up. They’re probably sending each other text messages on the Friday before Christmas week and laughing about it.

But from a corporate perspective, I guess you have to issue some kind of reprimand to keep up appearances for the pearl-clutching minority. Saunders didn’t say anything offensive, but it was a lewd comment. Maybe there was some mom in a van with a kid and the kid asked her what “blow me” means. That’s a hypothetical situation that may have angered somebody.

Here’s the audio if you missed it:

Either way, two games feels like a bit much for a joke on a hot mic. There was no public outcry on Thursday night, right? Nobody is out here calling for Saunders’ head. It’s not like he did an antisemitic touchdown dance with Puca Nacua and Adin Ross. And I guess there’s a silver lining because now he doesn’t have to spend his weekend in New York City.

We stand with Tim Saunders. I thought this was America! Huh? Isn’t this America?
