The Athletic has a New Flyers Writer

Charlie O’Connor’s replacement at The Athletic:
Some personal news:
I’ll be forever grateful I got a chance to spend two years in NYC.
But, it’s time to head back to Philly 🔔https://t.co/OVUEGFRsmh

We mentioned Kurz in the most recent Media Nuggets column, and he confirms in his writeup that The Athletic will bring in an Islanders writer to replace him. Looks like they will have Kurz full-time on the Flyers beat with no regional responsibilities, which is the right call. You need single-sport beats to really dive into this stuff, or else there’s no point of having a website like The Athletic.
Kurz previously worked in the Flyers’ communications department. He left for a bit to cover the San Jose Sharks, then came back to the east coast to work the Islanders gig. The next order of business on the local hockey beat will be the Inquirer announcing a replacement for Olivia Reiner and Giana Han.
Kevin has been writing about Philadelphia sports since 2009. He spent seven years in the CBS 3 sports department and started with the Union during the team's 2010 inaugural season. He went to the academic powerhouses of Boyertown High School and West Virginia University. email - k.kinkead@sportradar.com
