The Flyers Drafted Some Goalies, So People Think Carter Hart is Getting Traded

The Flyers used picks 51 and 87 on goaltenders, taking Carson Bjarnason out of the WHL and Egor Zavragin out of Russia.

They’re both teenagers and will require development, but naturally Carter Hart started trending on Twitter anyway:

Both Bjarnason and Zavragin are years away from ever playing for the Flyers, so a potential Hart move seemingly has little to do with these picks.

It is relevant, however, to consider the circumstances that need to be resolved before any Hart trade, as Anthony laid out on Crossing Broadcast:

Hart’s name came up in trade talks when the Flyers moved Ivan Provorov, then it died out from there. He turns 25 this summer and has that one remaining year at $3.9 million before becoming a restricted free agent. At that point, the Flyers will have another season of evaluation on Sam Ersson, who is younger than Hart by a little more than a year and similarly has one more contract year before becoming an RFA. Ivan Fedotov remains a wild card as well.

But again, this all hinges on the Hockey Canada scandal and what we learn from that. You also have to consider the value Hart could provide in return, though he’s certainly on the right side of age 25 and fits the rebuild timeline. He and Travis Konecny sit right on the rebuild fulcrum, guys who can bring back some value but could also be legit pieces when the Flyers turn it around.
