The Hockey Diversity Alliance is Asking NHL to Suspend Tonight’s Playoff Games

From Evander Kane:
We the @TheOfficialHDA have formally requested the @NHL to suspend all playoff games today. We strongly feel this sends a clear message that human rights take priority over sports.
— Evander Kane (@evanderkane) August 27, 2020
Chris Stewart and Wayne Simmonds are part of the HDA. which was formed in June. There are nine “founders” and five members of the advisory board.
Funky thing here is that Evander Kane isn’t even in one of the NHL bubbles right now, because his team finished last in the Western Conference and didn’t make the expanded postseason cut. Same with Simmonds and most of the others. Nazem Kadri I believe is the only HDA member currently playing. So in Kane’s case, here’s a guy who is not currently playing, but requesting that other players’ games are suspended, which seems like a conflict. This isn’t like LeBron leading the charge from Orlando.
Right now there are 43 players of color in the NHL and the Flyers are tied for having employed the sixth-most all-time, among them Simmonds, Stewart, Donald Brashear, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Tyrell Goulbourne, Justin Bailey, Sandy McCarthy, and the late Ray Emery.
