The King and Queen of the Netherlands are in Philly, Signaling a Flyers Playoff Premonition
The King and Queen of the Netherlands are in Philly on a diplomatic trip and they did a thing with the Governor on Independence Mall:
In addition to seeing the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, they were scheduled to visit the Eagles practice facility and a Kensington High School. Maybe they will run a ceremonial tush push, and/or receive the gift of an Adidas track suit from Big Dom.
The one thing that piques my interest, though, is the outright augury. There is definitely some prognostication going on here, because the Flyers have a chance to clinch a playoff berth tonight for the first time in five full seasons, and the Dutch just so happen to love the color orange, explained by Emily Burger at Dutch Review:
The Dutch love for orange is tied to the Royal Family — the House of Oranje-Nassau.
The lineage began with the famous William of Orange, who was crowned Prince of Orange in 1544. With his leadership, the colour orange became a symbol of the Dutch Royal family.
William of Orange, also known as William the Silent, was named heir to the county of Orange by René of Chalon, who himself died with no children.
Later, William went on to lead the Dutch Revolt against the Spanish occupation of the Netherlands during the Eighty Years’ War from 1568 to 1648.
His leadership was extremely influential in the rebellion, contributing to the official independence of the United Provinces of the Netherlands in 1648.
It makes so much sense now. The ORANGE and Black have a chance to clinch in South Philly on the same day that the King and Queen of the ORANGE-loving Netherlands are in town. Not only that, but the Carolina Hurricanes are sitting a bunch of their top guys, which has resulted in the Flyers sliding from -130 to -155 on the moneyline.
This is the slam dunk of all slam dunks. The Flyers are a stone cold, lead pipe lock. God wills it!
