Three Flyers Posts in One Day

Well it’s technically only two Flyers posts, because Carter Hart is no longer a Flyer, but our third hockey blog of the day is Tyson Foerster with a contract extension:

That’s a very good price for a 23 year old who might score 30 goals this coming season. He’s worth more than $3.75 million already, especially when you look at what 26-year-old Owen Tippett is doing for almost twice the money.

This feels like a good deal for a both sides. Sure, there’s a bit of grumbling about the length of the extension, the thought that Foerster could walk when the Flyers are finally turning the corner, but at least you’re not throwing some ridiculous contract at a guy who still hasn’t shown what his NHL ceiling is going to be. Chuck Fletcher would have given him 7 x 7 three weeks ago. Danny Briere went two years, which, if you think about, kind of clues you in to when the GM thinks the team is really going to be competitive.

If Foerster does well and ends up being a part of the future, give him the long-term deal when he turns 25, and lock him up. This should keep everyone happy for the time being without going overboard. It’s a new era of orange, motherfuckers.
