Travis Konecny is Tired of Missing the Playoffs
The Flyers lost 6-3 in Boston on Thursday night and are now ahead of only the Rangers in the Eastern Conference:
TK: “I’ve been through this so many times. I’m tired of missing the playoffs. That’s kind of all I look at right now. I just want to get points for the team. We need to figure something out… I think everyone knows where we’re at. We’ve just go to execute. There’s mistakes all over the ice, but you ask any of the leaders and it starts with us. Second goal, I made a mistake there and you can’t be doing that game after game. I think we all gotta look in the mirror.”
Konecny is near the bottom of the blame list during this recent stretch. He’s got 14 points in January after a 17-point December and pacing out for another 70-point season.
It’s been six full seasons now since TK has been in the postseason. That was 2019-20, the COVID year with Alain Vigneault. He also played on the 2017-2018 team but in 10 NHL seasons has only gone to the postseason twice and appeared in 22 playoff games. At some point you start wondering if you’ll ever make it back.
The only teams with longer playoff droughts than the Flyers are the Sabres, Red Wings, Ducks, and Sharks. Philly is tied with Columbus, Chicago, and Utah/Arizona for 5th place, and it doesn’t appear the drought is going to end this season. They’re now eight points out of a playoff spot with the pack beginning to separate, and if the lottery was held today, they’d be in the 11th spot with a 3.1% chance at the #1 pick. They get the Kings, Capitals, and Senators at home next week and if they can’t pick up some points in those games, they might be done.
