Two Great Events

Two fantastic things to tell you about in the absence of anything else going on oh hey look the Phillies are getting clobbered by the Marlins. Read on.

The Museum of Sports

Tickets are still available for The Museum of Sports fundraiser on June 15 at the Green Parrot in Newtown. I’ll be there podcasting along with Russ, and my lovely wife will be selling #merch. Oh, and Derek Barnett will be there.

Tickets are $100, but that includes an OPEN BAR AND FOOD. Not bad. Get your tickets here. A video from CSNPhilly.com about the event is after the jump.

What is The Museum of Sports? It is an effort being spearheaded by Ed Snider’s right-hand man, Lou Scheinfeld, and Rick Berger. They are trying to get built a museum in the Jetro building that will showcase Philly sports memorabilia and feature high-tech, interactive exhibits for Philly fans and tourists alike. The idea has a lot of support – including from power players like Mayor Kenney and Ed Rendell – but they need to raise the funds. Get tickets for the event here.

The Basketball Tournament

You’ve probably heard about The Basketball Tournament by now, the annual event which this year will feature 64 teams playing for a $2 million prize. This year, they will hold a jamboree play-in event at Philly University on June 17 and 18 to determine the last four teams in. Those games will be broadcast on ESPN 3 and feature a new ELAM ending, which NBA execs will be monitoring. What is it? From the press release:

The Jamboree games will feature the “Elam Ending,” experimental new rules designed by Nick Elam to reduce deliberate fouling at the end of games. At the first dead ball after the 4-minute mark, the game clock will shut off and a Target Score – determined by adding 7 points to the leading team’s score at the time of the dead ball – will be established. At that point, the game clock remains turned off and first team to reach that score wins.

That sounds fucking radical. In.

Better: The Villanova team this year is goddamned stacked, but only the top nine vote getters in each region get an automatic bid. Villanova is 10th in the East Region. Look at this team and tell me they shouldn’t be a lock:

Scottie Reynolds

Corey Fisher

Reggie Redding

Darryl Reynolds

Shane Clark

JayVaughn Pinkston

Antonio Pena

James Bell

Malcolm Grant

They’re coached by Mike Nardi.

Vote for them here. The Museum of Sports video is after the jump.
