Add this to the Pantheon of Great Nick Castellanos Interviews

Nick Castellanos walked it off on Sunday night and then we were treated once again to a wonderful postgame interview:

Rough start, but that eventually turned into a somewhat reasonable interview at the end. Good quote about how Phillies fans are “gonna give you all of their love, they’re gonna give you all of their hate, but they’re gonna give you everything they’ve got.” No lies detected there.

The thing about Castellanos is that he just takes what you give him at face value. In some journalism courses, they teach you to ask short and open-ended questions, because more often than not a player or coach will take it and run with it. What did you see there? – “Well I was looking for a fast ball there, I was expecting something down in the zone and off the plate but it was important to stay composed and not chase something low and away.” That’s typically what you get. But not from Castellanos. He says “four seam fastball” and will rarely expound on something on his own. You have to kind of lead him in the right direction. And then you have the line about the phone going off and the producer is somewhere in the control room sweating bullets and wondering how much worse this is going to get. Not Nicole Briscoe’s greatest interview of all time, but we are entertained.
