Andrew Painter will start in Low-A Clearwater on Friday, Rob Thomson said before Sunday’s rubber match with the Dodgers:

Thomson also said Weston Wilson will start a rehab assignment in Clearwater on Tuesday. They’ll have a definite answer on Ranger Suarez by Monday, but the tentative plan is to have a sim-game with Suarez in Clearwater on Thursday.

Painter is coming off Tommy John surgery back in July of 2023. The Phillies have been cautious with Painter since then. He only threw a few bullpens and one live BP down in camp this past spring. His most recent bullpen was Saturday, and Rob Thomson said it went “really well.”

Thomson said the timeline for Painter remains the same. A few weeks ago, the manager said “summer-ish,” and that’s still the plan. Thomson expects Painter to throw around once a week in Low-A for now, and he’ll climb through the minors little by little as we get closer to warmer weather.

Huge news for the Phillies, who are planning for Andrew Painter to join their pitching staff in the pros at some point in 2025.
