2026 Hall of Fame voting. Chase Utley finished third:

59.1% for Chase in his third year on the ballot. That’s up from 39.8% last year and a starting point of 28.8% in year one.

That’s a Hall of Fame trajectory. If he’s close to 60% in year 3, he’s probably getting there in year 4 or 5. There is not going to be some overwhelming glut of 1st timers taking away votes in 2027, among a possible group of Jon Lester, Buster Posey, Brett Gardner and some others.

Ryan Thibodaux is the guy who calculates HOF votes and keeps a spreadsheet, and this year it’s noted that Chase got 84.2% from first-time voters, which is a huge number. That bodes really well for his chances moving forward.

As for Jimmy Rollins and Cole Hamels, J Roll jumped about seven percent and Hamels opened at 23.8. Better outlook for Cole than Jimmy at this point. Jimmy is halfway through his eligibility now, and started at 9%. He has a long way to go, but you never know. That number feels pretty low honestly considering how good he was for a long period of time.

Bobby Abreu probably won’t make it. He’s running out of time.
